A climate positive start to 2022

Dear Gloscan,
I would like to invite GlosCAN members to make a climate positive start to 2022 by taking part in a very practical action to mitigate climate change. In collaboration with Diocese of Gloucester Academies Trust, we are planning to install a 54kWp PV system on the roof of Minchinhampton Primary Academy. This will be an important step towards net zero for the school, and electricity exported to the grid from the school will effectively reduce consumption of higher carbon grid electricity locally. We have contracts in place to install the system by the end of April this year.
To make this happen we need investments of between £250 and £10,000 now towards the total cost of £70,000, and are offering an interest rate of 2.5%. Full details and terms and conditions of the offer, which follow established practice for community energy, are available to download from our website at:
This is a really important project for us and for the County, because it is our first project that will be completely unsubsidised – we can repay investors with interest using the value of the electricity generated and reduce the school’s energy costs at the same time. If we can show that community investment can deliver this kind of project, there are many other local opportunities for practical mitigations of climate change that we can address. To phase out fossil fuels in transport and heating we need lots more green electricity and this is a very good way to supply it.
I am very happy to answer any queries by email or phone. We could also set up a zoom meeting if that would be helpful.
Best regards,
Peter Boait
